Study Demonstrates NOBS Toothpaste Tablets Effective as Fluoride Toothpaste

NOBS by biom and the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry at The University of Texas share findings of comprehensive study surrounding fluoride-free toothpaste tablets.

In a study just released, NOBS by biöm partnered with the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry at The University of Texas to conduct a comprehensive study surrounding its fluoride-free toothpaste tablets, and the results indicated that dentifrice tablets containing 5% nanohydroxyapatite (NOBS Toothpaste Tablets) are as effective as NaF (fluoride-based) toothpastes containing 1100 ppm fluoride in preventing tooth demineralization.

NOBS by biöm, the oral hygiene brand founded by dental professionals who were turned off by  compromises in traditional mouth care products, partnered with the dentistry department at The University of Texas for the independently conducted study, published in MDPI Dentistry Journal. The findings demonstrated that the company’s dentifrice tablets are as effective as the fluoride-based toothpastes in preventing tooth demineralization.

Amongst 4 randomly assigned groups, NOBS, the leading fluoride-based toothpaste brand, placebo, and no-treatment, NOBS Toothpaste Tablets matched the protection of a leading American fluoride toothpaste, cut enamel damage in half compared to unbrushed teeth, and outperformed the placebo tablet by more than double.

This 7-day, peer-reviewed study proves that safe ingredients can provide powerful cavity defense without the need for fluoride, according to the researchers. Biöm has invested in transparency to back claims, share unfiltered results, and let the facts speak for themselves, the company stated in a press release announcing the study’s results.

Key Findings

  • The study shows NOBS toothpaste tablet:
    • Matches the protection of America’s #1 fluoride toothpaste
    • Reduces enamel damage by 50% (vs. no brushing)
    • Outperforms a placebo tablet by more than double
  • University of Texas researchers put NOBS toothpaste tablets through one of the toughest lab simulations ever created:
    • Tested with:
      • Real teeth
      • Cavity-causing bacteria
      • Sugar exposure (3x daily)
    • Four treatments tested: NOBS tablet, Fluoride toothpaste, Placebo, No brushing at all

NOBS by biöm’s toothpaste tablets include 5% clinical-grade nano-hydroxyapatite to strengthen enamel, xylitol to fight bacteria, zinc citrate to control plaque, and no artificial sweeteners.

In their conclusion, the study’s authors wrote: “Within the limits of this in vitro study, the tested dentifrice tablet (Biöm® NOBS™ toothpaste tablets) containing 5% nanohydroxyapatite showed a significant ability to inhibit tooth surface demineralization, which is comparable to that of toothpaste containing 1100 ppm of fluoride. Thus, nanohydroxyapatite toothpaste tablet can serve as an effective alternative to over-the-counter standard fluoride toothpaste. It further demonstrated that the tested toothpaste tablet can inhibit dental caries development amid heavy dental plaque.”
